What is Ky Nam, Kyara, Qinan, Calambac ?

Ky Nam can be called such as Kyara or Qinan or Calambac.

With my small knowlegde and research about Ky Nam, i want to share to all over the world to know about this mysterious thing.

The formation?

First, we should know about Agarwood, please research more on google.

Agarwood is formed through processes agents when Aquilaria tree damaged physical or chemical Infected (both organic and inorganic ) (in natural, Holotrichia Sauteri Moser, ants go inside the tree to live and make nest, the Aquilaria wood itself has the property of attracting these animals to come in, continues to be invaded by mold, bacteria or infected with other chemical components that are harmful to the body and the growth of the plant). The plant must fight these damaging agents, the stem secretes oleoresin (a compound that is basically like an antibiotic) to cover, protect at damaged position to restore and protect the plant to continue of living. Over a long time, the resin at the site of injury accumulates gradually, has a special fragrance and turns into agarwood.

Agarwood has a large density, dropped into water will "sink" ("Agarwood" 沈 kanji means to sink), and the name "Agarwood" originates from there.

According to the statistics of botany, there are about 25 species of Aquilaria in the world, but only 19 species are capable of producing agarwood:

(1) Aquilaria grandiflora Bth, (China);

(2) A.sinensis Merr / A.chinesis, (China);

(3) A.yunnanensis.S.C.Huang, (China);

(4) A.beccariana Van Tiegh, (Malaysia, Indonesia);

(5) A.microcarpa Baill, (Malaysia, Indonesia);

(6) A.hirta Ridl, (Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore);

(7) A.rostrata Ridl, (Malaysia);

(8) A.subintegra Ding Hou, (Thailand);

(9) A.malaccensis Lam, (India, Brunei, Malaysia, Indonesia, Lao, Thailand);

(10) A.moszkowskii Gill (Indonesia);

(11) A.cumingiana (Decne) Ridl, (Philippines);

(12) A.filaria (Oken) Merr., (Philippines);

(13) A.apiculata Merr., (Philippines);

(14) A.acuminate (Merr.) Quis, (Philippines);

(15) A.crassna Pierrei ex Lecomte, (VietNam, Campuchia, Lao);

(16) A.baillonii Pierrei ex Lecomte, (VietNam, Campuchia);

(17) A.banaense P.H.Ho, (VietNam)

(18) A.rugosa L.C.Kiet & P.J.A.Kessler, (VietNam);

(19) A.khasiana H.Hallier (India, Brunei).

Other country don’t have info yet

In Viet Nam there are

1. A.crassna Pierre ex Lecomte, found in 1899, distributed throughout the country (from Hoa Binh to Kien Giang, Phu Quoc island).

2. A.baillonii Pierre ex Lecomte, found in 1915, distributed in Thua Thien-Hue, Quang Nam-Da Nang, Khanh Hoa.

3. A.banaensis P.H.Ho, found in 1986, distributed in Thua Thien-Hue (Bach Ma moutain), Da Nang (Ba Na).

4. A.rugosa L.C.Kiet & P.J.A.Kessler, found in 2005, distributed in Kon Tum.

“Agarwood” (沈香 jinko, “sinking fragrance”), as defined by the Kôjien-Japanese dictionary, is “a natural flavoring obtained from a tall tree. The tree belongs to the Asian tropics, about 10 meters high, the trunk is hard and submerged under water. White flowers. Bury the tree in the ground, or rot, the tree will become 'old la' 伽羅 with smooth black color, superior aroma and very expensive price".

The process of forming Ky Nam is similar to agarwood, but in nature, the conditions for Ky Nam formation are much more difficult than agarwood. No need for physical agents, there is still the formation and development of Ky Nam inside the tree (May cause of special rare of fungus and bacteria, each type of rare fungus and bacteria in natural environment will affect color and scent of Wild Ky Nam)

And not every old high grade agarwood will become Ky Nam when leave it for long time (even though thousand of years). Agarwood and Ky Nam are completely different in nature and taste. A tree with agarwood inside may have Ky Nam inside (the tree will be died soon when Kynam was forming inside, Kynam is very hot) , a tree with a Ky Nam inside does not have agarwood. It will be very rare that a tree has both Ky Nam and Agarwood, it must be said that it is extremely rare. Ky Nam is more rare and advanced than agarwood many times.

A tree with agarwood inside may still live, but a tree with Ky nam inside will die soon.

It is very hard for hunter to find agarwood and ky nam in forest, they must walk to find day by day among thousand of trees to find out Aquilaria trees, face of animals and many dangerous (may be die). But although when they find out Aquilaria tree, there is no agarwood or Ky nam inside.

According to the experience of those who hunting in forest said that when they encounter Aquilaria trees 30-40 meters high or higher, the leaves are yellow and become smaller, the trunk has many tumors like nests. If the root has a termite mound closed, that Aquilaria tree has Ky Nam. When they encounter such a Aquilaria tree, they have to cut down the tree and dig to the roots to find it, because Ky Nam can lie in the top, in the trunk or at the roots. When meeting young Aquilaria trees, hunter often use knives to dig into the trunk of the tree to make wounds and follow up many years later to get Agarwood if luckily it formed.

In 1977, Julaluodin was found in agarwood tree containing a fungus Cryptosphaeria mangifera.

"Ky Nam" especially only appears in Central Vietnam from Thanh Hoa to Khanh Hoa - a land with an attractive name, but true, it is "Land of Agarwood" in Viet Nam!

Since ancient times in Vietnam, there are descriptions in the royal books of the Nguyen Dynasty. Agarwood exists with more than 170 different distinguishable scents. For each incense inhalation for 24 hours in a row, there will be 8 waves of incense release. Each batch is a different aroma, complex flavor and has its own dominant smell.

In the book name Phu Bien Tap Luc, scientist Le Quy Don - Viet Nam also wrote: "Agarwood is the convergence of the spirits of heaven and earth."

"The life of heaven and earth, the cleansing of the universe, the reduction of negative qi, the good treatment of waste air, the only description of the yang, the superiority of the world's treasures..." - "Accumulating the spirit of heaven and earth, purifying for nothingness, clearing air, eliminate phlegm, treating digestive, cardiovascular is the most precious thing"

The peak of agarwood was during the Nguyen Dynasty - Vietnam, thanks to the contribution of the public god Nguyen Binh Khiem, suggesting to Lord Nguyen in the work of going to the south. Use agarwood as luggage, a remedy to carry with. Thanks to that, agarwood has been applied by the Nguyen for more than 400 years in medicine and life.

During their reign, the Nguyen kings increased the trade of agarwood with other countries. Typically, Lord Nguyen used to monopolize the agarwood market. Purchased domestically for 30 taels of gold/kg and sold to Nagasaki, Japan for 30-40 times higher, 1.200 taels of gold. Since then, the Nguyen kings created an exclusive royal and agarwood empire at that time.

The kings also had appropriate domestic and foreign policies to thoroughly protect our country's agarwood resources. The Nguyen Dynasty only allowed agarwood to exploit once a year. Select the wilted aquilaria crassna trees to get agarwood. Absolutely do not exploit young, still green trees because the resource of natural Agarwood is still low. Make sure not to destroy or over-exploit the country's resources.

Depend on the trading of agarwood between Viet Nam and Japan. Ky Nam was introduced to Japan, commonly known by the Japanese as kyara 伽羅.

The origin of the name Ky Nam?

According to Nakata Kyozaburo of the Baieido company, founded in 1657, the name "Ky Nam" was originally the Champa language because the Champa were the merchants from the beginning of time. The name "ky nam" is a combination of the Sanskrit word "kara" which means "black", and the Chinese word "bak" which means "tree, wood" (木 carpentry). With the synthesis of the two languages, we have the word "kalambak" or "calambac", and then this word was shortened to become "kynam", ie "black wood", as we have today.

It should also be added that it is not a coincidence that this particular type of bass is derived from Sanskrit, because the Sea Silk Road is also the way to spread Buddhism from India, and agarwood. Ky Nam followed that path with Buddhism. Champa at that time was also influenced by Indian civilization, instead of Chinese civilization like Vietnam.

More about Ky Nam

Ky Nam is the most elusive level of Agarwood. Many connoisseurs of agarwood research and collection often believe that an individual can only experience this heavenly fragrance after having practiced for three lifetimes. "Kynam is considered a relic in wood, the ultimate product of agarwood," said Mr. Su Tuan Sieu, an agarwood expert at the Panjiayuan market in the Antiquities Valuation program. "You have to practice for three lifetimes before you can meet Kynam"

Its rarity and value have been appreciated since the Han Dynasty- China, and Chinese folk also have many ways of talking about it. Some people say that in order to smell Ky Nam, it is necessary to accumulate the virtues of three generations, and if one can cultivate the good fortune of eight generations, then it is possible to enjoy Ky Nam. Therefore, many people consider Ky Nam to be the "diamond in spices from wood".

Natural / wild Kynam are known and formed in Vietnam, Malaysia, Cambodia or Hainan Island (China).

However, according to Chinese men's hunters, Nha Trang, Vietnam is the most famous agarwood trading place in the world and this region is also the most famous. In particular, the natural / wild agarwood, Kynam in Nha Trang, Vietnam is currently the standard to evaluate the best quality of all the production regions.

Vietnam's natural Kynam are currently the largest but becoming scarce due to the demand of the consumer market.

Professor Dinh Xuan Ba, Director of the Center for Applied Biology SECOIN in Vietnam, a leading research expert in Vietnam's agarwood industry, said: "Kynam is a specialty and a treasure of Vietnam. Not only for the scent is indescribable, mysterious and elegant, but also has the ability to treat."

Why, in the past, people often divided agarwood and Kynam according to the place of origin? Because the water and soil environment have a great influence on the quality of agarwood or Kynam. Agarwood, after successful infusion, will undergo a prolonged period of condensation, during this period, agarwood will form or absorb surrounding odor molecules, and then continue slowly condensed into its own distinctive flavor. Therefore, it can be said that the surrounding water and soil environment largely determines the quality of agarwood.

Classification of Ky Nam

Ky Nam can be classified into 5 types based on color as follows:

(1) White KyNam – 金丝 白奇楠 - Bạch Kỳ Nam

Resin form: The presence of active tissue in the leucorrhea creates a strong contrast between its active fibers (brownish-white patches) and the dark resin. When cutting, the friction White KyNam oil will be black, but when exposed to the air for a long time, it will become clear and bright white like a thin layer of sugar. Sometimes zoomed in with a magnifying glass will show some red oil mixed with very sparkling and beautiful yellow oils. Aging and maturation: More than 3000 years or more.

Value of Agarwood and Natural Ky Nam

Quote from Professor Dinh Xuan Ba, Director of the Center for Applied Biology SECOIN in Vietnam

1.png

What is the true value of Agarwood and Ky Nam ? That is the question that I have been trying to answer for many years but have not yet found a satisfactory answer. I think, to answer that question, we probably have to use both explanations: pseudoscience or pre-scientific (protoscience) and orthodox science. Pseudoscience is not antiscience, but in the history of some of today's sciences itself has gone through a period of pseudoscience and then pre-scientific. Examples of pseudoscience are Astrology, Psychic, Feng Shui, etc. Examples of pre-scientific are: Sociobiology, Futurology, Cryonics, etc.

From a pseudo-scientific (and pre-scientific) point of view, we see that, in addition to being used as a flavoring agent for high-class perfumes, Agarwood also has many important applications in traditional medicine, in aromatherapy. (Aromatherapy) and Plant Therapy (Phytotherapy or Herbalism, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herbalism), see the accompanying documents on the discussions on Agarwood by Le Qui Don, Prof. Do Tat Loi, Dr. Vo Van Chi, James Compton

Standing on the official scientific concept, so far there have been a number of important works as follows:

- The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has just announced a new invention by four scientists at Taipei Medical University with the content: "Using extracts of Agarwood bark to treat cancer ". Patent registration number is 20110160152, publication date: June 30, 2011, the authors of the invention: Ching-Chiung Wang, Lih-Geeng Chen, Ting-Lin Chang, Chi-Ting Hsieh. In fact, since 2005, Cucurbitacins have been found in the Agarwood tree (Thymelaeaceae), but this invention specifically shows that Cucurbitacins can be isolated from the bark of the Aquilaria tree (Aquilaria agallocha Roxb.), indicating the method of using it. Extracts in the bark of the above-mentioned Aquilaria tree to kill cancer cells, to prevent and cure cancer. Readers can view and download the full text of the aforementioned invention at: www.freshpatents.com/-dt20110630ptan20110160152.php and learn about Cucurbitacins at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cucurbitacin.

- According to www.vnexpress.net/Vietnam/Suc-khoe/2001/12/3B9B7607/ Scientists from Rutgers University (New Jersey, USA) used the resin of Commiphora myrha to test on MCF-7 breast cancer cell type, which is resistant to specific drugs. As a result, all cancer cells are destroyed.

- In November 2005, professors of the Institute of Natural Medicine, University of Toyama (Japan) found a new sesquiterpene of Agarwood from Vietnam and proved in the laboratory its stimulating effect on the reproductive process. BDNF (New sesquiterpene from Vietnamese agarwood and its induction effect on Brain-derived Neurotrophic Factor mRNA expression in vitro). The surveyed material was 4.52g Ky Nam (Kyara) purchased at Khanh Hoa Department of Science and Technology from December 2001. This work was published in Bioorganic & Medicinal Chemistry No. 14 (2006) pp. 3571-3574, February 7, 2006 available for download online from www.sciencedirect.com. Please note that BDNF deficiency has many adverse health consequences, see attached file..

- According to http://tuoitre.vn//Giao-duc/Khoa-hoc/424317/San-xuat-duoc-lieu-tu-l..., According to research by Master Dang Uy Nhan (University of Science) natural, Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City) leaves of Aquilaria crasna tree have very high chemical composition and antioxidant activity, isolated seven pure compounds in which the main compound is mangiferin with the content of 17.16mg/g ( equivalent to 1.7% in dry leaves). Mangiferin is an active ingredient capable of directly destroying Herpes simplex virus, Sitomegalo virus, stimulating the body to produce interfevon, helping the body to increase the body's ability to fight diseases of viral origin. In addition, mangiferin has a hypoglycemic effect.

- According to the Journal of Natural Medicines, volume 62, No.1/2008, Hiroaki Takemoto and his colleagues have proven the sedative effect of steaming with Agarwood essential oil. The full text of this scientific work can be downloaded at www.springerlink.com/content/n4m40825j26r2421/ or contact the authors at ghonda@pharm.kyoto-u.ac.jp.

- According to Bioscience - Biotechnology - Biochemistry Volume 72/2008 No.2, Hideaki HARA and colleagues found the laxative effect of the leaves of Aquilaria sinensis. This work can be viewed at www.jstage.jst.go.jp/article/bbb/72/2/72_335/_article

- The effect of Agarwood on the central nervous system, on healthy sleep and circadian rhythms, there are also works of:

In short, whether in terms of pseudo-scientific or orthodox scientific conception, Agarwood is originated from Aquilaria crassna Pierre ex Lecomte and Ky Nam is a specialty that nature bestows on our country. From the 16th century, when Agarwood was worth 16 times the price of gold (see Do Tat Loi, Vietnamese medicinal plants and herbs, page 436) until now, although the price fluctuates due to supply and demand changes, but in general still stand on a much higher price level than many other forest products. It is highly recommended to continue to develop it properly, especially to further study Agarwood in both basic theory and technology.

Quote from an expert – Mr. David Oller of Esoterics, LLC:

He asserts that Kyara can only be derived from trees of the Aquilaria species that grow in Vietnam. Anything not harvested in Vietnam, cannot be Kynam. That is the motto. Oller also claims that Kyara has a unique chemical characteristic that is not found in other types of jinko. There is a certain chemical called Dihydrokaronone that can only be found in the Vietnamese Aquilaria Grassna plant.

How to distinguish between Agarwood and natural Ky Nam

From time immemorial, scientist Mr. Le Quy Don - Vietnam has helped us to distinguish : "If you want to distinguish between agarwood and Ky Nam, you need to see the apperence and use your taste to distinguish it. Agarwood is hard, heavy, less fragrant, pale in color, bitter in taste. Ky Nam is soft, slightly oily, fragrant, and has a spicy, sour, sweet, and bitter taste. Burning agarwood, the white smoke swirls and then dissipates fastly. When burning Ky Nam, the smoke is straight and long, the smoke color is blue, and it exist long time in the air.

Naturally Ky Nam form from inside out of the tree without physical agents, agarwood is opposite. And cultivated Kynam plant needs to have a physical impact to form. This is general but in natural, there are some agarwood form from inside out the tree, this is rare, we must test to see the difference between Kynam and agarwood.

 Fig. Ky Nam VS Agarwood forming

1. Wood fiber morphology: In genuine Kynam wood, the straight grains run almost parallel, rarely see spiral grains, irregular grains and wavy grains found in normal agarwood (and Ky Nam type low end), see Fig.

2. Hardness. Kynam is classified as a softwood with a hardness below 150 lbf (pound-force). When first dug out of the ground, Kynam is very soft, but over time becomes harder and harder. In general, Kynam is not as hard as agarwood.

3. Odor properties. Kynam has a seductive fragrance. Can emit a clear smell at room temperature - compared to agarwood that must be burned to hear the smell. Kynam has its own special aroma unlike the smell of ordinary agarwood . It is difficult to describe the smell of Kynam in words. In the classification of perfumes (using the Wheel of Fragrance), the Kynam smell belongs to the classes of Dry Wood, Moss Wood, and Oriental Wood, or simply like a mixture of sweet, fatty, honey, milky, and aromatic flavors. Sweet vanillin or has a smell similar to the scent of traditional Chinese medicine but gentle and strangely deep, these tastes cannot be found in agarwood.

The green oil tends to have sour taste while the white oil has more herbal flavors (scent of traditional Chinese medicine, herbs) and the black or purple oil has a pure vanilla sweetness.

15.png

Tip: Wet the Kynam piece with a little warm water, then wrap it tightly with a nylon sheet (banana leaves are better), then you will leave it in the sun for about 10 minutes to see its sweet aroma, which you cannot found in normal agarwood, when ky nam meets water, it becomes soft and very easy to cut unlike agarwood. When dry, Ky Nam is quite hard but not as hard as agarwood.

For cold water, try to use pure rain water to wet Ky Nam and feel its aroma immediately.

4. Specific gravity: Kynam (and regular agarwood) has a specific gravity of 0.90 g/cm3 to 1.13 g/cm3, high-grade Kynam usually has a density > 1 (sink kynam). Ky Nam mostly floats in water, rarely seeing Kynam sinking.

Ky Nam oil is lighter than agarwood oil.

5. Smoke & taste. Chewing a small piece of Kynam between the two front teeth at the tip of the tongue, you can find at the tip of the tongue a few flavors such as acrid, bitter and slightly sour, sweet aftertaste. Some people will not feel the last sweet taste cause it is too bitter in the first taste. In particular, the tip of the tongue will become numb from mild to strong depending on the quality of Ky Nam. For normal agarwood, you may find it bitter and slightly acrid.

When burning a small piece of Kynam (temperature arround 90 degrees Celsius is best), you can see a straight blue smoke rising and then slowly disappearing and accompanied by a seductive aroma. When burning a small piece of common Agarwood (above 200 degrees Celsius), you can see a white spiral smoke that disappears quickly and is accompanied by an aroma.

In some high-quality agarwood, they are still gives white smoke up to meters in airtight conditions.

Arab people like to burn agarwood, because when burning with high degree (over 250 degree celcius), the scent of kyara is not as delicious as high quality wild agarwood (Ky Nam have burnt smell). But at room temperature or below 90 degrees, the scent of kyara is much better than agarwood. So some people call it low temperature agarwood (kyara).

In general, to perceive the taste and smell of agarwood/ Ky Nam/ Normal wood smoke, you must answer based on your own experience, imagination and feelings.

The way to recognize Kynam is mainly from true experience, not from a laboratory, it needs experience, you need to see it, smell it, touch it, taste it and burn it.

6. Chemical composition. In 2006, Japanese scientists found in Kynam collected from Khanh Hoa province a sesquiterpene type spirovetivane (4R, 5R, 7R)-1 (10)-Spirovetiven-11-ol-2-one. So far, we have not found this sesquiterpene in our common agarwood chips, so this sesquiterpene can be used as one of the important markers to judge the quality of Kynam. Another important chemical found in Kynam is the sesquiterpenoid 2,6-ditert-butyl-4-methylphenol

We assume that a Kynam product is considered high quality if the total content of sesquiterpenes, sesquiterpenoids and sesquiterpenes is large (e.g. > 75%), of which sesquiterpenoids and sesquiterpenes make up a large part, see publication titled “SEC1 method for quality assessment of agarwood essential oil” at http://www.dinhxuanba.com/2017/12/how-to-evaluate-quality-of-agarwo ....

Fake Ky Nam ?

There is no technology that can fake natural Kynam now (Only applicable to those who have had experience with natural/ wild Kynam)

Only the technology of planting Ky Nam until now.

Technically, almost all kynams currently on the market are “cultivated kynams.”

High quality premium cultivated Ky Nam for 5 years or more, try and smell it and enjoy it rather than just arguing wild or cultivated without knowing what it smells like or how degree it is burnt. The kynam itself has a light color, a little plastic but that is the signal that it have a lot of oil, a pale appearance does not mean the lower quality that many people misjudge.

Very few documents are shared clearly and accurately online about KyNam nowadays, mostly false and inaccurate or complete, they use the information mainly for trading or because they do not understand KyNam as well.

Comparing cultivated Kynam and Wild Kynam

1. Evaluation of appearance and texture

Cultivated Kynam with a lot of oil, looks like a homogeneous plastic block, easily crumbles when cut, has traces of drilling in the original embryo that has not been cut or turned. The cutted embryo uasually small.

Wild kynam is far different from cultivated kynam, because kynam trees grow in the forest, due to natural formation, there are absolutely no traces of drilling, the original embryo never has wounds, holes. Use your fingernail to scrape off the outer layer (skin) of the wild Ky Nam block, never peeling off like ordinary wood / cultivated Kynam , instead, you will see the shiny oil secreted. When cutting Wild Ky Nam is just like cutting into a block of waxed butter and there is no possibility of crumbling.

2. Scent

Cultivated Kynam has some of the main notes of wild Kynam but not as pure and wonderfully deep enough. The scent of cultivated Kynam is not as intense and complex as wild Kynam.

3. Taste

One of the classic identification tests for Kynam was the tingling sensation of the tip of the tongue when chewing on the tip of the tongue, using only the front teeth.

Spirituality of Agarwood and Ky Nam (Only and effective in natural agarwood, not artificial)

Highly appreciated and used in solemn ceremonies in many major religions such as Buddhism, Christianity, Islam... As the fragrance of nirvana, of worlds higher than the human world, has a higher frequency of vibration waves (Yang Qi).

Incense Agarwood can eliminate miasma (indoor steaming to eliminate negative vibrations), burn agarwood in ritual worship, have the ability to purify air, avoid evil spirits, and dispel wind affected (also known as heavy frequencies, negative vibrations, heavy low end - yin) very good.

If we take the aromatic oil of agarwood and mix it with musk essential oil (taken from the civet's fragrant bag), it will create a very special, very strong and very attractive scent, preventing wind affected. Also make statues, jewelry (long-lasting fragrance, use to treat wind affected, avoid colds).

For Ky Nam, in addition to the essence of Agarwood, the spiritual feng shui is much higher than Agarwood.

Because the formation of KyNam is mysterious and difficult to explain satisfactorily. For very very long time (thousand of years), Wild Ky Nam become complete tranfom into 100% resin (the wood fibre inside has disappeared) is extremely rare.

Above Ky Nam sample is sinking and there is no wood fibre, Scent: pure vanilla sweetness

(According to feng shui masters, incantation is not afraid of Agarwood, only afraid of Ky Nam, so they often use Ky Nam to force incantation )

The pharmacological properties of Agarwood

According to research by Western scientists as well as in Korea, China, and Japan, agarwood is considered as a superior medicine to cure a number of diseases.

Ky Nam can cure leprosy, asthma, forbidden speech, all kinds of diseases, grind into water and drop it, alsoburn smoke for incense to enter the nose, patient will wake up immediately. Abdominal pain will go away immediately (i have tested this and yes this is true)

P/S : a little secret i want to share more about the treatment property of agarwood oil and purying virus in the air, this has been experienced by many people who work with agarwood in my country. When agarwood worker get hurt during doing with agarwood, their injury will be heal faster than normal cause of agarwood oil's treatment property . During the epidemic of COVID, people live in area with agarwood oil evaporation in the air are not affected the virus. You can belive it or not but i have been experience about this through COVID epidemic time in my country. i think the price of agarwood and Ky nam is very high because its treatment property, especially Ky Nam.
